How to create AI videos from an image for free step-by-step
I

Steps on how to create AI videos from an image:
Step 1: Have an image ready
I downloaded this free coffee mug image from Pixabay.

Feel free to download the same one, perhaps we get completely different results! ๐
PS. Don’t overthink this, you have 30 tries every month for free! ๐
PPS. I don’t recommend using real-life pictures of yourself or family (Copyright is complicated… I’ll tell you more later!)
Step 2: Go to the “Dream Machine” by Luma Labs
Visit the Dream Machine by Luma Labs and click on the button “Try Now” on the top, right corner.

Step 3: Sign up
Sign up with your Google account (Sorry, non-Google users D:).

Step 4: Add your image to the Dream Machine
Click on the white image icon. It is in the right (<-) corner of the chatbox.

Step 5: Now upload your image
Wait til’ your image is visible. Then press the arrow up icon to upload. The arrow icon is bottom, right of the chatbox.

Now we wait for the result!
How long will you have to wait? Unfortunately, it is different for everyone. It took ca. 7 minutes for me, but I’ve seen (on this Reddit post) that it can take hours or days for some!
Step 6: Enjoy and share your AI masterpiece
Below is the result I got from my mug!
How does yours look?
Is it amazing?!๐ (Or perhaps horrible?๐)
Please do share with me what you created, I would love to see it!
That’s it for the tutorial! Til’ next time ๐
With kindness,
Sasie
Is Luma Labs’ website a scam?
No, it doesn’t look like it.
I Google-checked Luma Labs’ employees and found that many have personal and active social media accounts such as Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook. They also proudly mention Luma Labs in their description and resumes. This to me is a great sign of their existence.
Many AI services have fake employees and hidden identities. The reason (I believe) is that they want to avoid legal consequences in case something goes wrong.
That’s why real people are a good sign that the site is not a scam (because we can hold them accountable).
What are my use rights? Who owns the video?
I’m not a lawyer (!) so please read Luma’s terms and conditions and Luma’s privacy policy. My takeaway is not a substitute for Luma Labs’ terms and policies.
Here’s my (07/10/2024) takeaway:
You can think of this process as lending a friend some material; Say your friend “Luma” borrows painting colors and one canvas from you. She paints on the canvas with your colors. Wait and behold: it turns out really good. The material is yours, but the extraordinary art is Luma’s. As you see, it gets complicated. Who owns it now? Both of you do. Both of you are allowed to hang up the painting. Both of you are allowed to paint over the painting. Both of you are allowed to share the painting. BUT, if your colors are something personal to you, perhaps those are your private colors, it does not matter. Both you and Luma have equal rights. Except you can pay Luma to not share or change it and she’s only allowed to learn from her experience.
This means that, if you use the free version like we did in this tutorial, you allow Luma to publicly show and use the results even if the material is yours. If you use the pro version, Luma is only allowed to learn from the results.
Remember when I warned you not to use pictures of you and family? It’s because of this; you’d grant Luma Labs legal rights to use the result anywhere.
However, I can imagine that Luma struggles with copyrighted images (people upload images they don’t own). So the chances that they will use your results are particularly low because they can’t confirm your ownership of the material.
But it is up to you of course. If you want to see how the AI would predict your movements and don’t mind sharing your private portraits and images, then feel free to do so.
I bet a moving picture of yourself will feel super weird to see, but cool at the same time haha ๐
Personally, I am not ready for that. xD
